7 Serious Conditions Linked to Birth Control Pills—And What You Can Do Now

The development and distribution of birth control pills caused millions of women to breathe a collective sigh of relief. Finally, a simple solution.

“The Pill” granted the pleasures of intimacy without the fear of an unplanned pregnancy.

However, this seemingly “simple solution” isn’t so simple. Now, with decades of data backing them, research scientists warn women about the significant risks associated with birth control pills.

The Pill’s Dark Side

Women resting.
Birth control can exhibit side effects similar to mood disorders and other serious conditions.

Most women (and many doctors) haven’t noticed the warnings. Many women take the Pill for decades, believing it to be harmless.

Altering hormones, powerful natural chemicals in the body, can have profound consequences unless monitored. The huge problem is that synthetic hormones, as are used in the Pill, cannot be monitored in the body.

Symptoms caused by synthetic hormones may slowly build over time, but women (and their doctors) rarely link their symptoms to birth control pills.

The Pill’s 7 Serious Risks:

  • Breast cancer
  • Mood swings
  • Cerebral vein thrombosis (brain clot, hemorrhage, stroke)
  • Depression
  • Heart and cardiovascular disease
  • Irritable bowel disease
  • Liver cancer

How the Pill Works

The Pill alters your estrogen and progesterone levels, thereby suppressing your ovulation.

Intimate relationships must include emotional health to maintain balance.

Estrogen has 400 crucial functions in the body. Estrogen receptors are found throughout the body, in the brain, muscles, bone, bladder, gut, uterus, vagina, ovaries, breast, eyes, heart, lungs, and even blood vessels.

Estrogen (and there are multiple types) is just one set of essential hormones.

No hormones work solo in the body. They all act upon and influence each other.

Balanced hormones are like a symphony orchestra: The body and mind are perfectly tuned and harmony reigns.

However, that was not the case for Evelyn.

Take the Hormone Quiz

Evelyn’s Estrogen

When Evelyn* came to my office, she was 42 and had taken birth control pills since she was 18.

She was desperate. No doctors seemed able to help her. She had increasing levels of anxiety, depression, debilitating fatigue, dry skin, insomnia, hair loss, and was miserable due to hot flashes.

Evelyn’s saliva test revealed elevated levels of harmful estrogen metabolites and a low level of actual estrogen. She was also very low in progesterone. The birth control pills had shut down her body’s natural production.

Evelyn’s symptoms improved dramatically with discontinuation of the birth control pill, lifestyle changes, and supplementation of bioidentical progesterone.

The body is miraculous. It can turn itself toward health relatively quickly when it’s given what it needs.

The Many Benefits of Estrogen

Two of estrogen’s many benefits are that it helps us look younger and sleep better.

Estrogen also:

  • Increases metabolism, energy, muscle
  • Increases concentration, memory
  • Decreases wrinkles, improves collagen
  • Maintains bone density, helps prevent tooth loss
  • Increases sexual interest
  • Improves mood, aids formation of serotonin
  • Lowers blood pressure; reduces heart disease risk up to 50%
  • Decreases the risk of colon cancer
  • Protects against macular degeneration

Most people read that list and say, “I want that!”

But estrogen is not the only hormone in birth control pills. The Pill also regulates progesterone.

That’s the tricky part that may tip the body’s balance toward cancer.

Progesterone

Like estrogen, the body naturally produces the hormone progesterone.

Birth control pills contain a synthetic hormone, “progestin,” which mimics progesterone.

Synthetic progestin is associated with higher risks of breast cancer … and more.

Symptoms Linked to Progestin

  • Breast cancer
  • Thyroid imbalance
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Weight gain

If you take the Pill, ask yourself, is the risk worth it?

Believe me, there are safe solutions to birth control without risking your health and life.

Natural vs. Synthetic Estrogen

Receptor sites for hormones are very specific. Think of them as locks waiting for the perfect key to fit.

Synthetic hormones fit the locks in certain places, but they don’t fit perfectly.

In the body, those hormonal “close, but not quite perfect fits” can cause a lot of trouble.

For example, estradiol, a natural estrogen, clears your system in a few hours. But because your body can’t process synthetic hormones as efficiently, some forms may linger in your system for 13 weeks.

Therefore, your body shuts down its natural hormone production.

Synthetic hormones destroy your natural hormones.

Even worse, due to environmental toxins (xenoestrogens), such as BPA, PCB, and phthalates, even without taking birth control pills, people of all ages now have disrupted hormones.

What You Can Do Now

You need safe hormonal and family planning solutions, not dangerous synthetic look-alikes.

Out-of-balance hormones cause everything from dry skin, hair loss, weight gain, insomnia, and depression, to cancer and an early death.

On the other hand, by balancing your hormones with natural, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) you can achieve optimal physical, mental, and emotional health, abundant energy, and longevity.

That’s what I want for you.
